Over the last 5 years, Pasture and Plenty has produced a program that has served more than 700 local youth and families. Students build agency, confidence and life skills as they cook for their families!
Each series also highlights foods produced by BIPOC food manufacturers and farmers while we explore geography, climate, math, science, problem solving, history and culture, all through food. This year, our program will focus on the Great Migration, which saw millions of African Americans move from the South to the North and West and had a profound impact on American food culture.
But, we need YOU to help make it work! YOU can help this awesome program by volunteering to pack kits or deliver to students' homes on Thursdays in June or you can financially sponsor this FREE program directly on our site, or by sending a charitable donation through to Rooted (our 501c3 fiscal sponsor), noted for the Youth BE Program. Financial support allows us to add tools to the kits (aprons this season!) and provide more high quality local ingredients to the students.
Here are the important details:
The 4-week Youth BE Program is completely FREE and is open to students from 3rd – 12th grade
Class dates are on June 5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th | Thursdays | 5:15 pm - 6:30 pm
Classes are taught by outstanding Black Chefs and food business owners from the Madison area
Meal kits full of local goodness are delivered on Thursday afternoons directly to students’ homes, and each meal kit feeds a family of 4-5 (larger families will receive 2 meal kits)
Registration closes on Monday, June 2nd at 5pm
We'd love to have you join us in supporting the program! Let's work together to serve more students and to make a positive impact on the future of Madison we all want want to see — one that is rooted in community, connected, diverse, engaged and empowered.
