Supporting Life Readiness

Over the last 4 years, Pasture and Plenty has produced a program that has served more than 500 local youth and families. During each Black Excellence cooking series, classes are taught by a Black leader in the local food system and each series highlights foods produced by BIPOC food manufacturers and farmers. We explore geography, climate, math, science, problem solving, history and culture, all through food. Students build agency, confidence and life skills as they cook for their families!

In 2024, we won a grant from the WI DATCP Farm to School Grant program which supports us in expanding the program to more than 125 youth and families! It is development work like this that keeps the program FREE for families to participate. Over the years we have learned that making the program free is critical — it allows students and families to participate with no barriers.
