Meet Jerrod!

Jerrod Buckner graduated from high school in 2009 and immediately headed to college, entering Madison Area Technical College’s transfer program. He began his college career with eyes set on being a Computer Science major following his transfer to one of the University of Wisconsin 4-year campuses. He decided not to return to college when he failed 2 classes after 2 and 1/2 years in the program. While in school, he worked at local community centers where he found his knack: working with youth of all ages. For 8 years, he served in entry level roles as a program coordinator and as a camp counselor.

Eventually, he found a position that fit his expertise perfectly, but was more directly focused on STEAM—Community Outreach Coordinator at the Discovery Center on the UW Madison campus, a position he has held for the last 4 years. In that role, he specializes in connecting communities of all ages with STEAM learning opportunities.

In addition, he is currently developing his own business as he continues to be a science resource for the community.
